Agroforestry Course

On March 2 and 3, at Aurora’s Light-Community Fraternity, there were around 30 people present for the course of the agroforestry system, which is a technique that transforms agriculture into a sustainable practice, in balance with the Kingdoms of Nature.

The course was dictated by Isaias Reis, member of the Planetary Light-Network and a professional in that area. Members of the Light-Community, monastery and Light-Network participated.
The aim of the course was to illustrate with examples the agroforestry system through theoretical and practical classes.

The principles of agroforestry, the manufacture of supplies and biofertilizers were among the themes of the course during the weekend and, in the end, at the area of Redemption 2, a small module of agroforestry started to be worked on, which will be supported and expanded by the group work.

The correction of the soil’s minerals and nutrients, the preparation of the soil, the plantation of native and exotic trees, fruit trees, bushes, green fertilizer and cycle plants such as corn and sweet potato were done in order to begin with the implementation of the agroforestry system.

One of the people who participated in the course told us:

“We felt that our conscience wide opened when realizing that sustainability can be planned for the future, caring for the environment and taking advantage of all the elements that nature offers, receiving organic elements for consumption without anything that may damage your organism.”

We all feel this task was a very important seed for the future that will, someday, give us the chance to be self-sustaining in food supply. The idea is that more people may join the group that is part of agroforestry.

With the participation of members of the community and of the Light-Network, group works will be organized soon in order to carry forward this project.
